To know the past - understand the future
At the entrance of the Museum the visitor will find historical
documents
related with the Bobbin lace in Vila do Conde.

Sector 2
Bobbin Lace in Fashion
Since many years the bobbin lace were used combined in cloths.
The changing fashion time, left this fashion parked starting
a crisis in the sector.
The Museum assuming a leader role show to the visitor that
still the bobbin lace is used in many applications.
Wedding dresses, Christening dresses and other cloth designs
are part of the displayed collection

Sector 3
JOANA MARIA DE JESUS Prize
Since 1981 this prize allowed the Museum to buy wonderful and
unique
samples.Part of this collection is on display in this sector.

Sector 4
The Lace School
Since 1919 the Lace School of Vila do Conde keep training
lace makers.
From this School were developed, produced and created one the
most beautiful lace collections from Vila do Conde.
Nowadays part of this collection is on deposit in the Museum.
This collection enrich the quality of the exhibition.
The nature, maritime, geometrical or religious are some of
the inspiration font of these hundreds of lace produce in the
School.

Sector 5
The bobbin lace of nowadays
Having in mind the new development of the lace and their use
in the expanding markets, many activities has been developed
regarding the creation of new lace pieces.
Workshops, seminars fro the lace makers of Vila do Conde has
been run
allowing them to get in touch with the new reality of the markets.

Sector 6
Lace applied to the interior home decoration
Trying to help the commercial side of the bobbins lace, the Museum
presents
different set up such as a dinner table and other solutions.

Sector 7
International area
As result of the th every intensive contacts developed during
many years
with International lace community, the Museum has on display
a large
quantity of objects and tools coming from different countries.
Bobbins, pillow and many other tools and samples from all around
Europe
and South America.

Sector 8
The lace maker working area
After touring the Museum the visitor can appreciate and talk
to the
lace makers at the time they see a live performance about how
the lace form Vila do Conde is made.

Here you can buy the traditional lace from Vila do Conde.
